Which do you want? Less? Or more?
Here at Medical Examiner world headquarters, we’re always looking for advertisers. Until we win a mega-millions lottery (for which we never buy tickets, which makes winning difficult) we need their support to continue to publish Augusta’s Most Salubrious Newspaper. If you’re thinking about joining the tens of companies who already are savvy enough to reach our tens of thousands of readers, here’s a definite plus we offer:
What we print, we distribute. Not every publication in Augusta can say that.* What’s more, our returns are miniscule. Tiny. Inconsequential. A drop in the bucket. Returns of our most recent past issue (Nov. 16) were 257 copies total. That’s a mere 3.9% of our press run. That’s almost no cowbell at all. Keep in mind, we scooped many of those off waiting room coffee tables. They may have been return copies, but they had been read by countless readers.
* We recycle our returns at a paperyard where we routinely see thousands of new, still-bundled copies of area publications. This hasn’t happened once or twice; it’s something we’ve seen more times than we can count. Four area publications seem to be the top offenders. We can only surmise they are truthfully telling advertisers what their actual press run is, while conveniently omitting that they do not distribute thousands of copies. Printing can cost pennies per copy; distribution can be a lot more expensive. This is reminiscent of former Augusta publisher Charles Walker, currently living in a prison cell. He defrauded advertisers by using inflated circulation numbers for his newspaper.
Here is a promise: we distribute every copy we print. We print 6,500 copies twice a month. Reader surveys suggest an average of more than two readers per individual copy. Conservatively, that’s more than 25,000 readers per month. We aren’t the biggest publication in Augusta, but we are one of the most well-liked and well-read. And we’re definitely the most salubrious.
