Drug abuse is a hateable thing, although I wouldn’t aim my guns at the users first. I realize there are people who stupidly try drugs once, a single time, perhaps out of curiosity, maybe yielding to peer pressure, wanting to look cool, maybe after a few drinks and so not really thinking clearly – and that’s it: meth and crack can hook a person after a single use. Sure, they know it’s dangerous and illegal, but one thing is certain: nobody has ever said, “I’d like to become a drug addict.” I believe addiction is always an accident. A stupid, needless accident, but still an accident. That’s why I reserve my greatest contempt for the people up and down the supply chain. Usually they aren’t users of hard drugs; they’re too smart for that. They know the devastating, even deadly effects of their own product, but for the sake of money they will gladly sell poison to anyone who has the cash. That kind of greed – victimizing and enslaving another to line your own pockets – is just plain evil. I hate that.
