Church Chat

Welcome to the Church of the Infinite Chasm, a lonely voice against evolution in a sea of Darwinian believers. And that sea seems to be growing by the day.

The trouble is, in the same way many “Christians” belie their faith by their actions, even the most ardent evolutionists don’t really practice their faith. As we said in a previous post (see http://www.augustarx.com/news/?p=3064), you do not believe in evolution. And if you do, you’ve got a funny way of showing it.

To illustrate, the core principle of evolution is survival of the fittest. The unfit are selected for extinction, whether sooner or later – unless they can get their act together within the next few million years. It’s natural selection, and as the story goes it brought us to where we are today, to this pinnacle atop the food chain.

tumblr_m3t0nwhRC91qk10jfBy that argument, viewed as gospel by countless millions, why should any measures be taken to cure or save the life of this child? If natural selection is to be taken as fact, fighting against it is not only a refutation of Darwin’s teaching, but an exercise in futility. It would be like trying to defy gravity or reverse the direction of earth’s rotation. Saving this life would be dragging down all of our collective survivability.

But that’s not how it works, is it? Humans are caring and compassionate, generally speaking. If it were up to us individually, we would do anything possible to save this smiling child, even if she had to live that life without kidneys or without sight, or with any number of other disadvantages to overcome. Not one person in ten million – even if all ten million are devout evolutionists – would say, “Let her die. It’s the law of nature. It’s survival of the fittest.”

In short, we may say we believe in evolution, in natural selection, in survival of the fittest in theory. But in actual practice, in real situations of everyday life, all of us are prepared to prove by our actions that we don’t.
