One week from today is World Suicide Prevention Day. And National Suicide Prevention Week is September 8 – 14. Did you know that more than 5 million Americans have been directly affected by a suicide? That is just one of many surprising statistics you’ll read in this week’s Medical Examiner cover story, along with several helpful Dos and Don’ts. It’s information we all need. And information we never know when we’ll need. We live in a military community, and an area viewed as a desirable retirement destination. Both older adults and military personnel have higher than average suicide rates. But as this PSA suggests, even children have taken their own lives.
If you need to talk to someone, call the NATIONAL SUICIDE PREVENTION LIFELINE: 1-800-273-TALK (8255). If you’re a veteran or active duty military and you call that number, PRESS 1.
