Give in to that urge (although not in the middle of the road): a new study says not only that sleep is essential for life, i.e., death results from extreme sleep deprivation, but also that sleep lets the brain “take out the trash.” To quote,
“The brain’s unique method of waste removal—dubbed the glymphatic system—is highly active during sleep, clearing away toxins responsible for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.
