I Hate Monday

Twice a month in my role as World’s Oldest Paperboy I visit literally hundreds of doctors offices over the course of two days. And twice a month I see dozens of people sitting in cars with the engine running as they wait for someone inside. Before you tell me what a cold winter we’ve had this spring, let me cut you off and say this happens regardless of the weather. And may I add, I understand it when it’s 98° and the relative humidity is even higher.

If it's a little on the warm side, maybe you can even find some shade.

If it’s a little on the warm side, maybe you can even find some shade.

But I’ve seen this countless times on absolutely gorgeous, perfect days. Ideal temperatures. Low humidity. Pleasant breezes. And yet there sits someone with all the windows rolled up and their engine burning expensive gasoline, generating greenhouse gases, wasting their hard-earned money. Who knows how long they’ve been sitting there when I roll up. They’re still sitting there when I leave, and for who knows how long after. I wonder how many hundreds of thousands of cars, maybe millions, are sitting in parking lots around the world at this very moment, engines running? Here’s a suggestion: turn off the engine, save your money and your gasoline, roll your windows down and feel the breeze, baby. It won’t kill you.
