The D-Day Edition

In which the “D” stands for “Day,” your possibly little-known true fact of the day. It could also stand for “Death,” however. Our cover story is a real killer, comparing the death toll from various wars (World Wars I and II and the Civil War, to be exact) with the death toll from tobacco use, perhaps the deadliest killer in human history. But don’t take our word for it: our facts and figures come from the World Health Organization.

In light of the sobering facts you’re about to read, take note of our own homemade PSA on page 6: A hospital with a designated smoking area is like a Betty Ford Clinic with a designated drinking area. Hospitals: are you listening???

As always, every page is awash in good reading, so we’ll stop blocking your view and let you get right to it.
