Ye Olde Mid-Week Break

Dedicated to Mark Gibson
Let’s do something a little different today.

For starters, here is something we have done often in this space. That is to say, the Hump Day Hiatus often provides an escape to some exotic and beautiful corner of this amazing planet, giving us a glimpse into the lives of people far, far away, and vistas we may never otherwise see. We call them staycations or videocations. This one will take you to one of the magical cities of the world, as you can plainly see already. It’s a little more fast-paced than I would prefer, but despite that it does offer an amazing snapshot of an amazing place. I hope I get to go there in person someday.

Barcelona GO! from Rob Whitworth on Vimeo.

Welcome back! How was your trip? Splendid, no doubt.
Now that you’re back and freshly vacationed, here is something in a different vein entirely, offered for your edification if you have a bit more time to spend (a mere 12 minutes). A trip to Barcelona can be taken in a few minutes. This will take longer, but if you invest the time you will learn something you didn’t know before. Remember the lady who spilled hot coffee on herself and sued McDonalds and won a judgement of millions of dollars? The case became synonymous with frivolous litigation and is still one of the signature examples of our litigious society. [Have you heard the news this week about the baseball fan who fell asleep during a Yankees game and was shown on national TV slumbering in the stands? He’s suing the Yankees for pain and suffering for his humiliation.] If you think you know the story, you haven’t seen this documentary. There’s a lot more to the story than the soundbites we heard in news reports. Watch this and, as Paul Harvey would have said, “Now you know the rest of the story.”
