The Helicopter Issue drops

Not literally, silly. I don’t need the NTSB on my case. But the cover story today is about a disturbing trend: jailing moms (and sometimes dads) for leaving their kids unattended for five minutes. You know, the kind of things our parents used to do to us for five hours. Mothers are being hauled off to jail; kids are being whisked away to “protective custody.” To quote the August 8, 2014 issue of the Medical Examiner, “[children] are being traumatized to protect them from the possibility of being traumatized.” In short, helicopter parenting has morphed into helicopter bystandering has morphed into helicopter law enforcement. Read all about it. And for almost literally tons more interesting reading on the subject, I highly recommend a visit to www.freerangekids.com You can thank me later.

And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. There is a plethora of good reading in this issue, as always.
