One of the foundation principles of evolutionary thought is that life reached its present complex states and all its astounding diversity by gradually becoming more and more sophisticated. Under this premise, life began in the simplest forms imaginable and progressed from there.

There’s just one problem with that doctrine: as one scientific article asked, “Is any form of life really simple?” The cell, for instance, once thought to be the basic building block of life, the smallest unit of life itself, was later discovered to be as complex as a major city, with highways, communications networks, chemical factories, defense systems and more.

Every living thing – in fact, just about every individual component of every living thing – is discovered upon closer examination and intense study to be complex, intricate and sophisticated beyond anyone’s initial imagination.

If all of this happened through trillions of fortuitous accidents over billions of centuries, that truly does stretch the boundaries of believability.
