The end of another season of baseball is closing in. As always, it opened on bright hopes and the neon green grass of spring. Long shadows fell across perfect fields as the sun set and the lights came on and the heat of the day slowly evaporated. There was beer. There were hot dogs. Foul balls and home runs. Starters and closers. The final victory and the last defeat. Within a few days the boys of summer will head south for the winter, waiting for spring so it can all begin again.
