One epic hiatus

It’s long. It’s the longest Hump Day Hiatus ever. But do this: just give it six or seven minutes. Ten tops. If you don’t feel it’s compelling, if you’re not intrigued – or maybe even hooked, you can click off and stop watching.

By way of introduction, consider this statement by a French surgeon. “If we could be suspended in space over an abyss from which the sounds of the revolving earth rose to our ears, we would hear an elemental roar of pain uttered as with one voice by suffering mankind.”

Or as the Bible puts it, “All creation keeps on groaning together and being in pain together until now.”—Paul, in Romans 8:22.

That doesn’t mean this film is a downer. One thing it does very effectively: make us realize how good we have it compared to so many others. That is especially true after watching the entire series: there is a Human Vol. 2 and a Human Vol. 3. It also expertly paints the incredibly rich and varied tapestry of the human family. What complicated creatures we are.
