We sometimes call it The Hump Day Hiatus. This week it’s a day late, but really, when is it not a good time for a brief yet refreshing break? Today we journey to the Ventana Wilderness of California, part of the Los Padres National Forest, to meet Jack English, all of 93 years old, living a life of solitude in a log cabin built with his own two hands, gnarled though they are. Describing his quiet life, Jack says, “It’s not like I don’t like people, I do. I just don’t like swarms of them.” Amen, Jack.
