The week is now more than half over and a new Medical Examiner hits newsstands later today, so things are obviously looking up. We add to the euphoria by giving you The Hump Day Hiatus, the high point of the week for many of our readers. Or so they tell us. Things are indeed looking up (and we are among those things). And what did we see while looking up, but a massive bird ballet. As semi-common as these may be – we have probably all seen one of these amazing performances – they are somewhat baffling to scientists. How do tens of thousands of birds do a complicated and coordinated series of aerial acrobatics without experiencing a single midair collision? No one knows for sure. Meanwhile down below, cars are colliding. And in hundreds of places around the globe right now, two people are approaching each other from opposite directions in hallways or aisles and will have to do that awkward left-right dance thing. What, we ask you, is up with that?
Enjoy your hiatus.
