Do I hate bakeries? Heck no. I love bakeries. I love bear claws. I love cinnamon. I love cinnamon buns. I love cinnamon swirled through or sprinkled on just about anything. I love coffee cake – with or without coffee. I love sugar. I love frosting. I love bread. I love butter. I love brownies. I love fudge. I love muffins. I love biscuits. I love cake. I love cookies. I love chocolate chips. I love ginger snaps. I love lemon squares, especially with a thick layer of powdered sugar on top. I will eat a spoonful of powdered sugar. I have done so many times. I love red velvet cake. I love spice cake. I love carrot cake. I’m not crazy about donuts, but put one in front of me and I will eat it. And love it. I love ice cream. I love pie a la mode. I love cake a la mode. I even love ice cream a la mode. I love chocolate syrup. I love maple syrup. I love pancakes and I love waffles. I love french toast. I love bacon. I love sausage. I love bacon with maple syrup on it. I love maple-cured bacon, and I don’t even know what that means. I love Wright brand bacon commercials. I love hash browns. I love breakfast. For breakfast. I love breakfast for supper, especially in cold or rainy weather. I love food.
So why is all of this in an I Hate Monday post? Because I hate not being able to stuff my face with these things and many more at will. Back in the day, I considered any meal a total loss if I didn’t get up from the table feeling just a fraction north of stuffed. If I had that philosophy now, at my age, I would weigh 300 pounds. But as we age we learn dirty words like “cholesterol” and “saturated fat.” I suppose we’re all better off if we do keep a close eye on what we eat, but there’s no law against pining for the good old days, is there?
