Today is Day One of something new at the Internet’s Most Salubrious Blog, a feature that will appear on Sunday mornings. It’s a new church, in fact. The Church of the Infinite Chasm. All hail! The focus of the church is pretty narrow. It’s going to be all about thinking on just one subject: evolution. This belief is widely accepted as scientific fact (although in truth, evolutionary scientists themselves are not in agreement about any key aspect of evolutionary science).
Science cannot conclusively prove the explanation for life’s beginnings which it embraces as fact.
Creationists, on the other hand, are derided as Bible-thumping simpletons who stubbornly cling to their quaint beliefs in the face of mountains of alleged evidence to the contrary.
In short, both groups rely heavily on faith. Yes, that’s a decidedly dirty word to scientists, but it is what it is.
Here at The Church of the Infinite Chasm, we’re not going to get our hands dirty by scraping around in the dirt for fossils. We’re not going to quote chapter and verse from either group’s bible, The Origin of Species or that other bible, The Bible.
Instead, the plan is to offer some brief little nuggets to ponder. Like this one. Church is in session.
