SNOWMAGEDDON 2014

Getting ready for the Deep South’s first taste of measurable snow this year? Here are some tips.

Before you run to the store to stock up on milk, eggs, bread, Medical Examiners and other necessary staples to get you through Snowmageddon 2014, give at least some thought to what will happen if you lose power.

Can you even open a can of soup if you have no electricity? And if you can, will you be able to heat it up and eat it up? What about those eggs? Unless you’re a fan of raw eggs (not recommended), they don’t belong on your “Emergency Staples” shopping list. Not that you can’t buy eggs, soup, frozen pizzas, etc. Odds are you will not suffer a prolonged power failure. But on the off chance you do, make sure you also have foods you can enjoy without an assist from the power company, stuff like:
• cereal
• fruit
• peanut butter
• granola bars
• raisins
• crackers
• cheese

Granted, these aren’t five-star dining options; they’re just things that are reasonably nutritious that can stave off hunger pangs if you temporarily don’t have electricity to cook.
