Yes it’s an announcement in service of the general public, or PSA for short. It’s a visual PSA, as they often are. And it makes a powerful point. Distracted driving – and texting is a top culprit – blinds us to what should be our primary focus: driving safely. Think for a moment about how quickly you hit the brakes when you see a hazard in front of you. Did you know that at 45 mph, you will travel almost 50 feet just in reaction time before your foot hits the brake pedal? Imagine how much farther down the road you’ll go before you even see a potential hazard if you’re textng, or otherwise not giving Job #1 your full attention.
People, we should have this problem solved by now. Look at this clip of my Aunt Nellie back in 1962. Yes, distracted driving was even a problem before cell phones came along. It’s time to end this dangerous habit once and for all.
