Worldwide Day of Play

Nickelodeon has cancelled its programming through 3:00 pm in observance of today, the Worldwide Day of Play. It’s for grownups and kids alike. If you missed it, you can turn off your TV any day of the week and go play. If anyone asks, tell them you have permission from the Medical Examiner.

OCTOBER 5 ISSUE: Here

It’s never fun to have a typo in a headline, let alone the lead story on page one. For the record, the headline was supposed to be “Breast Cancer.” Well, it’s printed. Not a lot we can do about it now. We’ll just have to go with “Beat Cancer” which, upon further reflection, is not the worst typo we’ve ver …

Feel your boobies

That’s what an illustration on the back cover of this week’s Medical Examiner encourages. Trouble is, doctors say many women don’t know how to properly and effectively perform a breast self-exam. In this video, a doctor takes a patient through the steps of both how to do BSE correctly, as well as when it should be done. It’s different for …

This is our 150th issue!

And people say the Medical Examiner doesn’t look a day over 100. Run your fingers lightly across your screen right now. Feels almost like glass, doesn’t it? That’s exactly what this week’s Examiner feels like. We’re using a new printery: better paper, improved printing, less ink on your fingers. Of course, the paper and ink are merely the vehicle. The …

Bully Central

The cover story in this week’s Medical Examiner (above) isn’t about neighborhood or school bullies. It’s about adults who should know better who go through life bullying clerks, waitresses and other people they view as inferior life forms. Even so, we did include a sidebar (page one, left side) about the very real and significant problem of youth bullying. It’s …
